Two more surfing days before Christmas!

The first of the two days were small breaks over a sandbar that make nice easy catching waves.  Even though they were small they had enough energy to ride all the way to shore and make some turns on them.  This is one of the five established breaking points at Birch Bay State Park.  Living up here has been fun and learning what happens with tide changes and what certain winds can do to the ocean is a good learning experience.  This was a beautiful day and you would of never known it was 10 days from Christmas.

Three days later a west wind came from nowhere and gave the 3rd break these!  With an outgoing tide and 20 mph winds I was treated to some nice breaking waves for an hour before it got dark.  This is the same location of the 5 foot wave I have in my first blog by the tree.  When it breaks here it seems to be better from the west and waves are smooth like the point.  It never fails me when I surf here. They are longer rides and the energy keeps going all the way to shore.  All in all it was a fun couple of days and I can't wait for what 2012 will bring.

Third Week of November

The third week in a row of surfing and the storms keep coming.  I went surfing on Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, on what seemed to be identical size waves.  Both days were 25 plus mph and both on outgoing tides.  Monday was the best day with waves at 3 ft breaking past the kelp bed.  Tuesday was also good surfing and marked my 40th time this year catching waves out in the Birch Bay area.  November has been a great month and I can only hope that this can continue.

Second Week Of November

The waves came back to the point at Birch Bay and they were nice. The right winds with the right tide made a great ride along the shore.  Very consistent breaking waves off the point that ranged from 2 to 3 feet and smooth faces to ride. I was surfing for 2 hours before I was forced to go to work.  I always look forward to the waves here, because they are always clean and easy to ride.

Still the first week of November!

The last surfing day of the week and then it is off to Cannon Beach to catch some real waves.  That said, I could also live with it like this once a week a Birch Bay too!  I was told that it is rare to have waves here, that is not true.  They might not be big, but I can ride them and that is all I care about.

First week of November

The first week of November brought 3 to 4 foot waves on the 1st and 2 days later brought 2 foot waves. I also was able to ride my new 9 foot longboard for the first time at Birch Bay.  The wind was strong and alot of energy in the waves, if I brought my shortboard I would have tried it out. On this day, was some of my longer rides I have had on the south side of the park.
Two days later I was surfing again. Even though the waves were mostly about a foot to a foot and a half.  With a little patience, I was riding 2 foot waves that rolled all the way to the beach.

Surfing at a new location at Birch Bay in October 2011!

With 20mph winds and an outgoing tide, I surfed for 3 hours just up the beach on a nice left to right shore break.  Waves ranged from 1 1/2 ft to 3 ft with a great breaking curl.  Surfing by myself all the time I have realized that a gopro would be nice, to show what it was like to ride here.  It has been a great start to the surfing season at Birch Bay.
